"It's kind of like being kicked repeatedly in the face by a really attractive stripper". That's how I described the sound of one of Children of Bodom's albums when recommending the band to a friend of mine in the pub many moons ago. "Huh, what does that mean?" they responded, a tad perplexed.
"Well it's high energy melodic death metal ... like really high energy. It kind of feels like you're being violently assaulted. But it's also kind of alluring and weirdly beautiful. You keep coming back for more even though you probably shouldn't."
He later told me, having gone away and listened to it, that my review of their sound was one of the most accurate descriptions he'd ever heard.
The album I was talking about was Hate Crew Deathroll, and here's the 5th track from it, Angels Don't Kill. Enjoy!
