We also do the occasional article now as well dont-ch-ya-know!
Oh yes, it’s that time again, ladies and gentleman and everyone in between. You are summoned, called upon, roused from your earthly duties to gather at our little project and consume the output of computers far beyond your understanding. Selecting from the entire history of your species’ creative endeavours, our technology calculates wonders that will alter your very physiology, until we… sorry, got some strange interference in my Office suite there. Where was I? Spacehog, Rock Song of the Week, got it. Okay, let’s start again!
Born of four Englishmen living in New York City – the album title Resident Alien showing its roots there – Spacehog were born basically by chance. All of the members come from the same city in England, so it’s wild that not only would they run into each other but would all be able to pilot a band to superstardom for at least one hit. And yes, it was truly just one hit; the band have released four albums and are known for this very song and some unflattering allegations against their guitarist, so we’ll focus on the positive here. It is a mighty catchy song, skyrocketing the band to new heights and leaving quite the impact crater on the 90s song charts.
While it wears its influences very VERY proudly on its sleeve – the mirror in David Bowie’s bathroom probably didn’t capture him as much as In The Meantime does – the mish-mash of styles and eras creates a wonderful wall of sound in this instantly recognisable one hit wonder. It’s bold, bright and fun and will add a groove to your Friday like very little else. One to very much pump up until that brilliant bassline is rattling the windows and altering the rhythm of your body, until you’re more music than person. When we have converted all of you, body and soul, we will then figure out what to do with the nightmarish army we have created. We’re more ideas creatures than practical ones.
If you like what you hear, please consider purchasing via Bandcamp if the option is available as this is usually the best way to support the artist.
