Here’s a challenge for all you budding rock fans – find me a musician’s lore as wild as that of all around legend Roky Erickson. I mean it, scour the Internet; the man has more stories than a hundred floor library and only a handful of them seem remotely normal. Hell, from having the middle name Kynard to asylum escapes and involuntary electroshock therapy for schizophrenia, there were very few moments in Ericksons existence at all that seem normal even after a good, long look.

As you probably could tell from the “involuntary electroshock therapy” part, a lot of those stories were not so fun to tell at parties. He was a man who lived a deeply troubled life and, even with all of that said, managed to put his foot in the door of music history. Erickson played from his early childhood, recorded music until 2010 and performed basically up until his death in 2019 which, when you consider just how difficult his personal life was, is nothing short of unbelievable. When I say he was an all around legend, that’s not just personal preference talking.

So, in honour of a man who pioneered psychedelic rock and simply did not let anything get in the way of his creative vision, our Rock Song of the Week pick is the barnstorming “Two Headed Dog”, released in 1980 and just as ass-kicking today. It rollicks and roils its way into your brain with not even a consideration for a foot on the brakes and if you’re not humming it to yourself a week from now, then we personally have done you a disservice. That’s just the sort of confidence we have in our work – and the work of the artists we feature, too. See you next week for the next one!
