Pulling off the acoustic singer songwriter gig is probably one of the trickiest things to do well in the world of rock music.  It's as stripped back and raw as it gets, and you're up there without a band to back you up or a backing track to hide behind, baring your soul.  Done well, it'll hit any discerning music fan right in the feels like nothing else.  The problem is for every Bob Dylan or Paul Simon out there, there's a hundred other guys clang clang clanging their way through yet another bad Radiohead cover in your local bar, and let's face it, nobody really likes the dude that whips out his acoustic at a party.  My point is, in terms of rock and roll, as basic as the format seems, it's very very hard to excel in it.

Fortunately our spotlight this week isn't shining on Diamond Dave Does The Hits or whoever it is that's going to be soliciting yet another round of awkward claps at your local boozer tonight, but on an artist who has most certainly mastered the craft.  Jack Savoretti is relatively new to the scene, at least in terms of the heydey of folk and acoustic music being arguably the 60's and 70's but the British singer songwriter has scored more than a few hits since his debut in 2007 with his own take on the genre.  Our pick this week also loosely continues our theme from last week, in that fans of the (criminally underrated) video game Days Gone will most likely recognise this one as it was featured to great effect.  I'm also reliably informed it was in an episode of Sons of Anarchy too .. which tracks, as it seems like it'd be at home on the soundtrack to that series (and now all I want to do is knock off early for the day and hit the road on two wheels).

So anyway, get ready for a bit of melancholy this week and enjoy Soldier's Eyes.  I'm off for a ride, see you next week!
