appears on Back to the Future: Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack (1985)
We're feeling a bit melancholic today here at the Rock Song of the Week offices*, so what better way than to kick us out of this funk than by time travelling back to 80's for a slice of feel good rock. Time travel being the key word here, as any fans of legendary Back to the Future will no doubt have this one etched in their subconsiousness. Yes, that touching story about a boy going back in time and geting a bit innapropriate with his own mom gave a massive boost in popularity to not just the idea that a DeLorean could reach 88mph, but also firmly cemented this feel good (if a little too darn loud) banger into it's rightful place in history.
That's not to say Huey Lewis and the News hadn't done anything of note before this though. Indeed the band had been knocking about since the early seventies and already had three moderately successful albums to their name. But the success of the film and overall catchiness of the two songs they provided on the soundtrack definitely made them a househould name.
I could go on, and probably try to shoehorn an American Psycho reference in here as well, but instead we'll just jump straight to the song. Readers and bots, for your listening pleasure, it's The Power of Love.
* Less of an office, more a large, damp storage room behind a bar. But hey, there's a solid supply of whiskey!
