We also do the occasional article now as well dont-ch-ya-know!
There’s nothing quite like a big chunk of cathartic release on a Friday morning, is there? (Pause here for ‘Oooh Matron’). A big yell into the void to blow clear the metaphorical accumulation of a week’s worth of frustration dust that has settled on the soul. Beats the hell out of a cup of coffee, right?
Here’s the good news. This week, our patent pending Rock Song of the Week selection features Highly Suspect prominently in that regard. The Massachusetts-based quintet’s take on contemporary alternative rock channels all that good/angry stuff you remember from the 90s and burns just as hot at its lowest and slowest as it does at its brightest and fight-est. Remember the 90s? Well, your mouse cursor turns into a little hand on the Highly Suspect website homepage and if that doesn’t take you back to the glory days of the early Internet, nothing bar an email from a Nigerian Prince today will.
Let’s do away with any more patter, then, and pin those brass tacks directly into the pinboard of having a good time. Lydia, with its slow crescendo rising to outright rage, is going to blow the cobwebs away so hard that the spiders will sue you for the uncontrolled demolition. Take a listen (or three, we’re here all day), watch the incredibly impressive video (please do watch it, it features an incredibly impressive one-take underwater scene by actress and free diver Marina Kazankova) then take your own deep breath. It’s about to get loud for a few minutes wherever you are.
If you like what you hear, please consider purchasing via Bandcamp if the option is available as this is usually the best way to support the artist.
