Heavy Load - Might For Right

appears on Death Or Glory (1982)

Axes up, folks! In case your day was in any need of the sort of metal that puts hairs on every inch of your body, we have heeded the call of the alpine horn to rescue you from your Friday funk. Already covered in hair? I don’t see any reason you wouldn’t still enjoy it. Slightly less efficient, is all.

Often hailed as the first true heavy metal band to emerge from Sweden’s shores, Heavy Load wasted no time after their 1976 formation in getting to kicking ass and shredding riffs. It’s true clashing swords and yelling warriors stuff, not caring to slow down for piddling things like “making much sense” or “your neighbours' eardrums”. Fun fact - last year, the band released their first album in over 40 (FORTY!) years, which is proof if proof were needed that heavy metal will not, nay, cannot die. We all need a little pick-me-up now and then, don’t we?

Words are for weak mortals, so here is our rampaging Rock Song of the Week pick “Might For Right”, in all its big, sword-swinging glory. If you have a second, please take a good look at the album cover. It feels like there’s little need to add words to it, to be honest. Man fights polar bear under Tolkien-esque, mountainous skies while heavy metal blares in the background? Tale as old as time.
