Behold; more new music for your Friday eardrum furnishing! Well, new if you weren’t aware of this Rock Song of the Week pick being released as a single a year ago, anyway. We don’t tend to sweat the small details here in the office; quaint notions like “up to date computers” and “paying business tax” are for people who lack the sheer drive we have to bring you top quality music every week.

To proper serious business, then, in the form of the light goth rock of Corlyx. There has been long and varied debate about what constitutes gothic music in general, a debate which we are absolutely not wading into here for fear of being set upon by bats (winged or otherwise). Originally from Los Angeles, the band are split between the UK and Italy, bringing new attention to the post-punk scene in a poppy, 80s way with some serious growl undercutting it. It is fantastically catchy, and you will find yourself wondering quite how something with so much misery running through it gets into your brain so emphatically. It’s like the montage song for Dracula getting ready in the morning.

Without further ado, then, here is the anthemic and surprisingly toe-tappy Ghost of the West Coast, by the anthemic and surprisingly toe-tappy Corlyx (not to be confused with Horlicks, which does the opposite). If you’re a big fan of Siouxie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy or anything that sounds even slightly like Joy Division, this is going to be so far up your street that the postman will refuse to deliver to it because his legs are aching. So, break out your best pale makeup and your long leather boots and make this Friday gloomy in the best possible way.
